God has placed you in your neighborhood on purpose, and this season is the perfect opportunity to reflect His light to those around you.
The Heart Behind Sharing Jesus During the Holidays
The message of the holidays points directly to the heart of the gospel. Thanksgiving reminds us to be grateful for God’s goodness, and Christmas celebrates the moment God gave His greatest gift—Jesus Christ. When we take time to share that truth with our neighbors, we’re participating in the same mission Jesus gave His followers in Matthew 28:19, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” You don’t have to travel across the world to fulfill that mission; you can begin right outside your front door.

- Start with Gratitude and Prayer.
As Thanksgiving approaches, make a list of your neighbors and pray for them by name. Ask God to give you opportunities to connect with them in meaningful ways. You can even drop off a simple thank-you card, homemade cookies, or a small note expressing gratitude for their friendship. A genuine gesture of thankfulness often opens the door for deeper conversations later on. - Host a Gathering.
Consider hosting a small Thanksgiving dessert night or a Christmas hot cocoa gathering. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Invite a few neighbors over, play some Christmas music, and let it be a warm, welcoming space. Many people who wouldn’t attend church at other times are open to visiting during the holidays. Whether it’s a Thanksgiving service, a Christmas concert, or a candlelight service, extend a warm invitation. Say, “My church is having a Christmas service this weekend, and I’d love for you to come with me.” Offer to sit with them, introduce them to others, and make them feel comfortable. You’re not just inviting them to an event—you’re inviting them to encounter Jesus.
The Message Our Neighbors Need to Hear
Amid the lights, food, and festivities, the greatest gift we can give our neighbors is the truth of the gospel. John 3:16 reminds us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” That’s the message of Christmas—the message of hope the world still desperately needs. And as we approach the end of the year, it’s a beautiful reminder that gratitude and generosity aren’t just seasonal—they’re reflections of the gospel itself.
This Thanksgiving, thank God for the people who live around you. This Christmas, let your home be a light that points to Jesus. Your neighbors might forget what you served at dinner or what gifts were exchanged, but they will never forget how you made them feel—valued, seen, and loved.
