Easter Is So Important to Celebrate as a Church
Easter is the most significant celebration in the Christian faith. It is the foundation of our hope, the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan, and the ultimate display of His power over sin and death. Without Easter, Christianity would lose its core message—the resurrection of Jesus Christ. As a church, celebrating Easter is not just an annual event; it is a sacred opportunity to reflect on the gospel, proclaim the good news, and invite people into a life-changing relationship with Jesus. Here are several reasons why Easter is so important for the church to celebrate.
1. Easter Is the Victory of Christ Over Sin and Death
At the heart of Easter is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. After His death on the cross, where He took on the punishment for our sins, He was placed in a tomb. But three days later, He rose from the dead, defeating sin and conquering death once and for all. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:17, “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.” This means that without the resurrection, there is no salvation. Easter is the confirmation that Jesus’ sacrifice was accepted by God, and through Him, we are offered eternal life.

The resurrection of Jesus is what makes Christianity different from every other religion. Other leaders and prophets throughout history have died and remained in the grave, but Jesus rose again, proving that He is the Son of God. Easter is a time of renewal. It reminds us that no matter how broken or lost we feel, Jesus’ resurrection offers us new life. Just as He overcame death, we too can experience transformation through Him. Romans 6:4 says, “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” This celebration is a powerful reminder that God can take what is dead and bring it back to life. He can restore marriages, heal broken hearts, and give hope to those in despair.
